WrightLife resources

A life insurance guide for seniors.

Start with what you want to leave covered: final bills, support for a spouse, a mortgage, or a legacy. Then compare the available policies and long-term payment commitment.

Decide what has changed

Retirement can reduce some expenses and change others. Review income that would stop at your death, debts, savings, and any existing life insurance. A policy bought decades ago may still have valuable guarantees.

Age and health affect the choices

Issue ages, coverage limits, and premiums differ by product. A simplified application may ask health questions without an exam. Guaranteed-issue coverage may be available within certain age and location limits, often with graded benefits.

Ask what is payable in the first years

Do not confuse an immediate policy effective date with an immediate full death benefit for every cause. Review graded benefits, exclusions, and contestability provisions in the actual contract.

Check the payment against a fixed income

Choose an amount and premium you can reasonably maintain. A larger policy that lapses may leave less protection than a smaller one kept in force. Understand how the premium is scheduled and what happens after a missed payment.

Replacing insurance requires care

Compare surrender charges, guaranteed values, new underwriting, and the effect of starting new policy periods. Never cancel existing protection until any replacement is approved and active.
