Make the comparison count

Know what your family would receive, and when.

A benefit for your beneficiary

Your chosen beneficiary generally receives the payment and can use it for funeral expenses, outstanding bills, or other needs.

Health questions or guaranteed issue

Some policies ask a few health questions. Eligible guaranteed-issue policies do not require medical underwriting, but still have age and location rules.

Immediate or graded benefits

A graded policy may limit the natural-cause death benefit during an initial period. Compare this before choosing solely on price.

Start with the expenses you want covered

Consider funeral or cremation arrangements, travel for family, and any bills you expect to leave behind. Subtract money already set aside. A final expense policy is generally smaller than insurance intended to replace years of income.

A health condition does not end every option

Guaranteed-issue coverage may be available to eligible applicants even with serious health conditions. Eligibility ages, state availability, maximum benefits, and graded-benefit periods vary. We can help you understand those limits before applying.

Ask about the first two years

Some policies have an initial graded death benefit, and policies commonly contain a contestability period. Those are different provisions. Ask what would be paid for a natural-cause death, an accidental death, or a claim during the early policy years.

Common questions

A few answers before you reach out.

Is burial insurance the same thing?

Burial insurance and final expense insurance commonly refer to life insurance intended for end-of-life costs. Neither term by itself tells you whether benefits are immediate or graded.

Does the money go directly to a funeral home?

Generally it goes to your named beneficiary. Funeral-home assignments or separate pre-need arrangements can work differently. Check how the policy is structured.

Can everyone qualify?

No policy is available to every person in every place. Guaranteed-issue options remove health underwriting for eligible applicants, but age, residency, state availability, and benefit limits still apply.
